Tooth contouring is used to modify and re-shape teeth so that they not only look more attractive, but also fit better with neighbouring teeth. At Crown Street Dental Group we use tooth contouring to repair the most noticeable teeth at the front of the mouth.
This method is used to treat a variety of dental defects, such as:
We can also use tooth contouring to treat minor problems with the bite that occur when the teeth come into uneven contact with each other.
Before we begin tooth contouring, we will need to fully examine your teeth to assess how best to repair your dental issue. The process involves removing a small portion of the enamel with a drill, followed by a thorough polish to create a smooth appearance.
During the procedure you may feel a slight vibration as the enamel is removed, but otherwise, discomfort is minimal and in most cases anaesthetic is not required.
In some cases, the root surfaces may need to be reshaped. In this instance, you may require an x-ray to determine whether or not the pulp or inner tissues of the tooth need any additional protection.
Tooth contouring takes up to 30 minutes, and the results are instant. Often, we use tooth contouring as part of a smile makeover alongside veneers, composite bonding and teeth whitening to give your smile a dazzling, dramatic appearance.
