January News!

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2022. From all the Crown Street Dental team we hope you & your families have had a lovely Christmas and that 2022 brings you good health and happiness.

New Year New Plans!

January is a month that we all like to plan our year ahead with holidays, and events such as Weddings. If you are getting married this year and your smile is part of your plans, now is the best time to get the ball rolling. Some treatments can take 6-9 months to complete and often we find people leave this to last minute and have to settle for a compromise. It is very easy to arrange a consultation with Leanne our treatment co-ordinator this is free of charge and you will be provided with all your options.

Smile of the Month

This beautiful lady had a tooth that had dropped! We used Invisalign to guide it back into place and then some tooth whitening and then bonding to improve the tooth contour

Team News

This month we are celebrating a big birthday for our lovely Front of House Julie. If you are attending the practice Tuesday 25th, make sure to wish her a Happy Birthday !

Coming SOON!! Keep your eyes peeled for next months Newsletter! We will be providing details about our Charity and Sustainability goals and a very exciting raffle with amazing prizes.

Recipe of the Month

This month we are getting back on track and reducing sugar. Here is a recipe for a sugar free lemon drizzle cake. The sugar is replaced with Xylitol. This a natural sweetener made from the bark of birch trees. It looks and tastes like sugar and can be used as a substitute in many recipes. It is low GI and therefore has less impact on blood sugar levels. It is available from large supermarkets and health food shops.

Prep:10 mins
Cook:1 hr – 1 hr and 10 mins
Cuts into 8-10 slices
Sweetened with all-natural xylitol, this sponge has a dense, syrupy texture and keeps well for a few days

Ingredients:
225g self-raising flour, sifted
½ tsp baking powder
225g xylitol
2 lemons, zest only
2 large eggs, at room temperature
125ml sunflower oil
1 tbsp milk
200g 0% fat Greek yogurt
Drizzle:
1 lemon, juice only
50g xylitol

Method:
STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 180C/ 160C fan/ Gas 4. Grease and line a 1.2 litre loaf tin (22cm x 13cm width, 7cm depth) with baking parchment. Mix together the flour, baking powder, xylitol and lemon zest in a large bowl.
STEP 2: Mix the eggs, sunflower oil, milk and yoghurt together in a separate bowl or jug and stir them into the flour mixture.
STEP 3: Spoon into a tin and smooth the surface. Transfer to the oven immediately, bake on the middle shelf of the oven for 1 hour – 1 hour 10 mins. Check after 50 mins, if the cake is becoming too dark, cover loosely with foil.
STEP 4: Just before the end of cooking time, make the drizzle by heating the lemon juice and xylitol. Stir over a low heat until the xylitol has dissolved. Once the cake is cooked, take it out of the oven and pour over the drizzle.
STEP 5: Cool in the tin before turning it out.

YUM!

Covid Updates

The well-being of our patients and staff has always been a top priority.

Our team have been working tirelessly since we were able to reopen and see patients face to face in June 2020.  Measures such as pre-appointment Covid screening, staff lateral flow testing, enhanced PPE by clinicians, social distancing and medical grade air filtration systems within the practice will continue into 2022.

As the rules relax, we would like to remind our patients that we will continue to follow the guidance of our governing bodies and continue placing the well-being of our patients and staff as top priority

We will continue to  request the use of hand sanitisers and masks to be worn by patients at all times when attending the practice.

Our waiting area is open for patients to use on a restricted basis. We continue to implement a ‘closed door policy’ meaning only patients with appointments who have completed a pre-screening covid form can enter the practice. Alternatively, you can still wait outside or in your car before your appointment if you would rather do that.

Our Front of House team are answering the door as soon as they possibly can. Sometimes you will need to wait a few minutes until they are able to get to you. This will be the case if they are busy taking calls or seeing patients out. So please bear with us.
