May News 2023

This month we have been spoiled by the four day weeks, and it looks like the sun might make an appearance for the final one of May. We are even feeling hopeful our BBQs will get their first appearance of the year!

Whatever you are doing this weekend, we hope it is an enjoyable one without any dental drama! However, should you happen to need us, please do take a look at our Bank Holiday policy online by clicking HERE.

Skin Clinic Essex

Hannah of Skin clinic Essex is working in partnership with ScreenCancer UK and they are offering a private skin cancer screening service here at Crown Street Dental Group, The appointment is cost effective, innovative, and quick skin cancer screening service.

You can book a consultation to answer any questions you may have relating to UV/sun exposure and other risk factors. The mole/pigmented lesion is then imaged with their non-invasive technology.

The images are sent to a dermatology specialist who analyses them remotely. If the mole/pigmented lesion is normal ScreenCancer sends you the results via text message link or through the post. If the mole/pigmented lesion shows signs of concern, a Healthcare advisor will call you to explain the results and guide you to what steps need to be taken.

This includes a follow up a few months after you have received the report from ScreenCancer.

Our car park has 2 spaces available for patients. We have had a number of issues with cars not being able to get out of the car park due to be blocked in by cars parked in front of them, causing quite a bit of chaos.

If the two spaces are taken please make use of the many surrounding car parks in Brentwood. Our nearest one is Chatham way 1 Ropers Yard, Brentwood CM14 4BG. The first 30 minutes are free or £1.10 for an hour. You can pay with coins or alternatively, download the app ‘PhoneAndPay’ Please leave plenty of time to park before your appointment. Thank you.

Smile of the Month

Just look at this transformation! We LOVE this smile and the patient loves it too.

A Hygienist visit, some whitening and finished with composite bonding. Beautiful

Recipe of the Month

We recently came across this Cauliflower, pomegranate and pistachio salad from Ottolenghi and it is so easy to make and also delicious! Not a spoon of sugar in sight! We think this will make a lovely side dish to accompany a BBQ, or can be enjoyed on its own as a lunch. YUM!

Ingredients

1 large cauliflower (800g)
1 medium onion, roughly sliced (130g)
80ml olive oil

25g parsley, roughly chopped
10g mint, roughly chopped
10g tarragon, roughly chopped
Seeds from ½ medium pomegranate (80g)
40g pistachio kernels, lightly toasted and roughly chopped
1 tsp ground cumin
1½ tbsp lemon juice
Salt

Method

Preheat the oven to 200°C fan.

  1. Coarsely grate a third of the cauliflower and set aside in a bowl. Break the remaining cauliflower into florets, roughly 3cm wide, and add these to a separate bowl with the cauliflower leaves, if you have any, and onion. Toss everything together with 2 tablespoons of oil and ¼ teaspoon of salt, then spread out on a large parchment-lined baking tray. Roast for about 20 minutes, until cooked through and golden-brown. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.

2. Once cool, put the roasted vegetables into a large bowl with the 50ml oil, the grated cauliflower and the remaining ingredients, along with ¼ teaspoon of salt. Toss gently, just to combine, then transfer to a platter and serve.

Get more social

As we are tucked behind Crown Street, we thought we should probably shout a little louder on Social Media. So we have become more active on our Instagram and Facebook accounts. We would really appreciate a follow from our patients that use social media, and you can let us know what you would like to see more of on there.
